Jeep safaris: someone else drives
On a jeep safari a local driver handles the 4×4, and your job is to hold on, look around and get soaked in the water fights. The Dim River jeep safari climbs through banana plantations to a mountain village and stops for lunch and a swim by the river. The Sapadere Canyon trip heads east of Alanya to a 360-metre walkway between rock walls, with waterfalls and pools at about 12°C. In the mountains behind Manavgat, the Green Canyon jeep safari pairs Land Rover tracks with an hour on the emerald lake, and the Lion Park and jeep day adds a morning with lions, bears and monkeys.
Quad and buggy: you drive
If you would rather steer, the quad safari and the buggy safari put you behind the handlebars or the wheel for a guided convoy through the forest above Alanya. Both take about four hours including the transfer, both are priced per vehicle – single or double – and both begin with a safety briefing. Quad drivers must be at least 16, buggy drivers 18; younger guests can ride as passengers on a double.
Gentler and later options
The cabrio safari swaps the jeep for an open-top bus with music – smoother seats, the same mountain views, a boat ride on the Green Canyon lake and the Manavgat Waterfall on the way back. For a cooler start, the night safari leaves in the late afternoon, watches the sunset from high in the Taurus and ends with a village dinner and a campfire.
What to wear
Old clothes, closed shoes, sunglasses and a scarf against the dust; swimwear for the river and lake stops; a waterproof bag for your phone. The tracks are bumpy, so off-road trips are not recommended in pregnancy or with back problems.
Frequently asked questions
Which jeep safari should I choose?
Sapadere for a canyon walk and icy pools, the Green Canyon for a boat ride on the lake, the Dim River safari for a classic day with a riverside lunch – and the Lion Park combination if your children love animals.
Do I need a licence for a quad or buggy?
No. The rule is age: 16 to drive a quad, 18 to drive a buggy. Everyone gets a safety briefing before the convoy sets off.
Will we get wet?
Almost certainly – the water fights between the jeeps are part of the fun. Keep your phone in a waterproof pouch and pack a dry T-shirt.
Are safaris OK for children?
Children usually love the jeeps and the cabrio bus. On the quad and buggy they ride as passengers on a double vehicle; tell us their ages when you book.
