Side: ruins you can walk through

Side was a port of ancient Pamphylia, and its ruins are not fenced off from modern life: cafés stand beside columns, and the colonnaded street leads past the agora and the great theatre to the Temple of Apollo on the shore. Manavgat: river, waterfall, market

The Manavgat River runs right through its town to the sea. On Mondays and Thursdays – market days – the river cruise drifts down to the mouth, where you swim in fresh and salt water, then visits the broad Manavgat Waterfall and the bazaar. The open-top cabrio safari also stops at the waterfall on its way back from the Green Canyon.

Into the hills

Behind Manavgat the Taurus begins. The Altınbeşik Cave tour crosses an underground lake by boat and visits the stone village of Ormana, and the Lion Park – on its own or combined with a jeep safari – is a sure hit with children.

Getting around

From Alanya the drive takes roughly an hour, and Antalya Airport is only about 65 km away. The resort hotels stretch along the coast on both sides of the old town – Boğazkent, Gündoğdu, Evrenseki and Kumköy to the west, Titreyengöl to the east.
