Manavgat River Cruise with Waterfall & Market

A gentle river day on market days only: cruise down the Manavgat to the sea, swim in fresh and salt water a few steps apart, lunch on board, then the Manavgat Waterfall and the big weekly bazaar.

Side & Manavgat

Not every holiday day needs a plan. On this one the river does the work: the Manavgat leaves the Taurus Mountains, winds past fruit orchards and tall reeds and slides into the Mediterranean, and our boat simply follows it. Expect around two hours of slow cruising downstream, with turtles surfacing beside the hull and herons standing motionless in the shallows – and hardly any walking all day, which makes it an easy pick for grandparents and toddlers alike.

Where the river meets the sea

The cruise ends at the river mouth, where only a narrow strip of sand keeps the Manavgat apart from the open sea. It is a rare treat: swim in cool fresh water, walk a few paces across the sand and dive into the salty Mediterranean. Lunch is served on deck – chicken or fish from the grill with rice and salad – and soft drinks are included.

Waterfall and tea gardens

Back on dry land, the bus takes you a short way upstream to the Manavgat Waterfall. It is not tall, but it is wide: the whole river pours over a long limestone step, and shady tea gardens line the banks. Your ticket is part of the tour price, so the time there is yours for photos and a glass of Turkish tea.

Bazaar time

The trip only runs on Mondays and Thursdays, because those are the days Manavgat holds its big weekly market – and that is where the day ends. Wander between heaps of seasonal fruit, sacks of spices, trays of Turkish delight, towels, fabrics and souvenirs, and don’t be shy about haggling; it is expected. Bring cash for your shopping.

Pickup and good to know

Air-conditioned transport collects you from about 08:30 from hotels across the Alanya and Side regions, and you are back around 16:00. River traffic can shuffle the order of the stops. There is no prepayment – pay in cash on the day. To add some history to your holiday, look at the Side ancient city and waterfall tour or the Aspendos, Side and Manavgat day.

Frequently asked questions

Why only Mondays and Thursdays?

Those are Manavgat's market days, and the big bazaar is the final stop of the trip, so the boat only sails when the stalls are up.

Will there be a chance to swim?

Yes – at the river mouth. Swim in the fresh water of the Manavgat, or walk over the sandbank and take a dip in the Mediterranean.

Do we pay extra for the waterfall?

No, the entrance ticket for Manavgat Waterfall is already included.

Is the trip OK for grandparents and toddlers?

Very much so. The boat glides along calmly, there's shade on board and almost no walking – it's about as relaxed as our tours get.
